A Belfast man who shook his exposed genitals at police and threatened to rip off an officer’s head has been jailed for four months.
Gareth Dunleavey, 42, also told one constable he would “headbutt the life clean out of him” as part of a drunken outburst of aggression.
Dunleavye, of Victoria Street, was also put on the sex offender’s register for seven years.
Belfast Magistrates’ Court heard police were called to a domestic incident at Fitzroy Avenue in the city on January 2 this year.
Officers were forced to draw incapacitant spray as Dunleavey began to threaten violence.
Prosecutors said he told one constable that he would put him through a window and rip his head off his shoulders.
“He threatened to turn (another officer) inside out and rip him apart in the hallway,” a Crown lawyer said.
“He further threatened to ‘headbutt the f***ing life clean out’ of him.”
Dunleavey was wrestled to the ground during attempts to arrest him.
At one point he pulled down his jeans and boxer shorts, exposing himself to police.
“He grabbed and shook his genitals towards one of the constables, telling him ‘suck my b***s you fat b******’,” the prosecutor added.
Dunleavey pleaded guilty to assault on police, resisting arrest and exposure offences.
Defence barrister Michael Boyd acknowledged: “This was deeply unpleasant and thuggish behaviour which, in sobriety, he’s ashamed of.
“He’s just the sort of person who cannot take drink.”
With Dunleavey already serving a six-month sentence over unrelated matters, Deputy District Judge Liam McStay added on a further four months in custody for the new offences and placed him on the sex offenders’ register.
