Joe McCann murder trial judge rules soldiers’ interview statements inadmissible

Statements obtained from two paratroopers following the fatal shooting of an Official IRA man in 1972 are to be excluded from evidence in their murder trial, a senior judge has ruled.

Two former members of the Parachute Regiment, named only as Soldiers A and C, are before the courts over the death of Joe McCann, a 24-year-old shot while evading arrest in the Market area of Belfast in April 1972.
