Local celebrities will don their running shoes tomorrow to help raise funds for the people of Haiti as they cope with the earthquake’s aftermath.
Hundreds of walkers and runners will descend upon Ormeau Park to take part in a 5km fun run organised by Belfast4Haiti and supported by the Belfast Telegraph.
Starting the race in the south Belfast park at 11am will be Olympic pentathlete Dame Mary Peters, who will also run. She will be joined by Hollyoaks star Gerard McCarthy. MLAs Alex Maskey and Anna Lo have pledged support.
The course is suitable for runners and walkers, and people of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to join in.
Organiser Austin Tanney said: “Support for the Haiti cause has been completely overwhelming.”
The fun run will take place ahead of a huge one-day gig, featuring many of Ulster’s top bands and musicians. Gerard McCarthy, who plays Kris Fisher in Hollyoaks, appealed for people to support both events.
“I am asking the people of Northern Ireland to come out and support Belfast4Haiti on Sunday to raise much needed funds for a country destroyed and to help save lives.”
Entry for runners is £10 per adult, £5 for under 16s and £20 for families. Registration is online — numbers will be given out from the Ozone Complex on Ormeau Embankment.
