Death of man at flat suspicious, say police

Police are treating the death of a man in Co Down as suspicious.

The victim, who was in his 50s, was found dead in a flat at Sullivan Close, Holywood, shortly before 4.15pm yesterday.

A spokesman for the PSNI said detectives were working to establish exactly how the man died, but said initial inquiries suggested there were suspicious circumstances.

It is understood he lived alone in the flat — part of a sheltered accommodation development — and may have suffered a head injury.

A post-mortem was due to be carried out on the body today.

North Down councillor Gordon Dunne said the community had been shocked by the news.

He said: “I would like to express my shock and sadness that such a death has happened in a quiet, sheltered accommodation housing development in the centre of Holywood.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the family.”

The man’s name has not yet been released although his family is believed to be from Belfast.
