Arms cache found close to primary school

Those responsible for leaving a cache of weapons close to a primary school demonstrated a wanton disregard for the lives of those within their community, an MLA has said.

Officers from the PSNI found a number of suspected guns, a quantity of ammunition and other items in the Pinebank area of Criagavon yesterday.

The items – believed to have been stashed by dissident republicans – were taken away for investigation.

"I'm shocked to learn they were found on waste ground close to a primary school where they could easily have been stumbled upon by children," Upper Bann SDLP MLA Dolores Kelly told the Belfast Telegraph.

"This yet again demonstrates the wanton disregard for life those who are engaged in violent acts have for their own neighbours and the local community."
