John Templeton given the third degree at Queen's University Belfast

By Anna Maguire

Age really is just a number when it comes to higher education.

This is certainly true for John Templeton who, at 69, will receive his third degree from Queen's University later this week.

John will graduate with Master of Laws with commendation from Queen's School of Law.

Originally from north Belfast, John left school at 15 to work in a shipyard.

He returned to education later in life while working full-time in the health service.

In 1977 John came to Queen's as a mature student to study economics and, later, a Masters in Social Sciences.

"I have a picture of myself and my daughter Victoria outside Queen's on my first graduation in 1980.

"When she was growing up, I always said she would be back at Queen's with me when I would graduate with a law degree!" he said yesterday.
