Entries open for ‘skills Olympics’

Local tradesmen and women are being invited to display their talents at part of the biggest skills competition in the world.

The WorldSkills Competition — billed as the skills equivalent of the Olympics — is held every two years by WorldSkills International in one of its member countries/ regions.

The UK won the bid in 2006 to host Worldskills in London in 2011 and this will take place from October 6 to 9, 2011 at ExCeL London.

The closing date for registration for skills competitions in order to be eligible to enter WorldSkills 2011 is March 19.

In Northern Ireland last year there were four new competitions — hospitality skills cookery competition, mechatronics competition, visual merchandising competition and Automotive competition.
