£300m Northern Ireland waste plan queried

Questions should be asked over the need to build three Energy from Waste plants costing more than £100m a piece as Northern Ireland’s annual waste mountain dwindles.

The Northern Ireland Association of Independent Recyclers warned that recyclable waste could end up being used as fuel in order to protect the commercial viability of the incineration plants.

It comes as the amount of household waste generated in the province each year has fallen 9% since 2002.
