Clean Europe Day: Public is urged to join Euro clean-up

People across Northern Ireland have been urged to join a Europe-wide Day of Action on Saturday, May 10 by organising a clean-up in their own community.

Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful is part of the Clean Europe Network, a group of organisations who have joined forces to promote Clean Europe Day. They are encouraging volunteers to organise clean-up events in their local areas to reduce the amount of litter and raise awareness of the extent of the problem.

Katy Jenkins, campaign manager at Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful, said: "By organising a clean-up as part of Clean Europe Day you can be part of an anti-litter initiative that will involve thousands of volunteers across Europe.

"Clean-ups can take place in your school, the street where you live, or a local beach – anywhere that has a litter problem. Just make sure you get the landowner's permission and make sure the waste is collected by the council."
