Green group Groundwork NI on the lookout for new recruits

By Linda Stewart

Green group Groundwork NI is offering young unemployed people a chance to earn money and skills this New Year as part of its Green Jobs Team.

It is looking for unemployed people from Belfast aged 16-24 to join the team, which hits the ground in January.

Green Jobs is an innovative programme which began in September 2013 and helps young people interested in a career in horticulture who are not currently in employment, education or training.

Dozens of young people in Belfast and Londonderry have already completed the programme, taking part in outdoor work across Northern Ireland, while receiving help with essential skills, ICT skills and CV construction.

They leave the programme armed with an OCN Level 1 Qualification in Horticulture.

Many trainees have now moved into full-time employment or further education and training, helping them find a pathway to a new career, Groundwork says.

The next group of Green Jobs Team trainees will hit the ground in January 2015.
