'Grow It Yourself' spring eventin Co Down

Grow-your-own fans will muster in Co Down today to swap tips on raising fruit and vegetables.

Anyone interested in growing their own food, whether in a pot on the windowsill or a large allotment plot, is invited to the GIY (Grow It Yourself) Co Down Spring Gathering. Members of the public can glean tips, chat to like-minded people and enjoy an inspiring talk from GIY pioneer Klaus Laitenberger.

The GIY network was founded in Ireland and now includes more than 50,000 people and 800 groups and projects worldwide. The group meets monthly and organised a food swap in October in Castlewellan. It is now planning another to coincide with the Castlewellan Agricultural Show.

GIY Co Down Spring Gathering will be held at Tollymore Outdoor Centre at 2pm. A £6 entrance fee will apply. For details contact Nigel at
