FAI talks boost for Derry City FC

Derry City's future in the League of Ireland appears to be secure following talks with a visiting FAI delegation.

A new board, which has not yet been selected, is due to take the helm of the ailing side and an |application will be made for a new Derry City side to enter the First Division.

The announcement was made at a Press conference yesterday evening following a whirlwind round of meetings in the city to find a way forward for the cash-strapped club, said have debts of up to £800,000.

However, it is not known where the new side will play — Derry City does not own the team’s Brandywell Stadium, which is earmarked for regeneration.

The venue is owned by Derry City Council and it is unknown if a new deal will be struck.
