Five charged over Antrim bar hatchet fight

Five men have been charged with possession of a bat and a hatchet following a fight in a bar.

A man who had been struck with a glass was discovered near the pub at The Square, Ballyclare, Co Antrim, shortly before 6pm on Monday night.

A second person, aged in his late 20s, found in the bar later was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening head injuries.

At around 10pm five male occupants of a vehicle parked at The Square - two of them in their late teens - were arrested in connection with possession of offensive weapons after a car was searched.

A bat and a hatchet were discovered.

The suspects were charged with two counts of possession of an offensive weapon and are expected to appear at Belfast Magistrates' Court on April 27.
