Four people held after Armagh robbery

Police were last night questioning four people in relation to an armed robbery in Co Armagh yesterday.

The three men and one woman were arrested a short time after the theft which occurred at around 2.15pm in Tandragee.

Two men, one armed with a hand gun and the other a hammer, entered the store in the Market Street area of the town and smashed a glass cabinet.

The duo removed a number of gold rings. They also stole jewellery from a safe before fleeing in a grey Audi A4 in the direction of Scarva.

Police believe the car, which was found burnt out, had been hijacked from a dealership in Mallusk on Wednesday.

A PSNI spokeswoman said last night the four people arrested were assisting police with their inquiries.

She also said police were keen to speak to anyone who noticed a red Corsa or silver BMW in the Scarva or Tandragee areas yesterday, as well as anyone who may have any information about the car hijacking.
