Fury over plan for club on site of disco blaze
Politicians in the Republic are backing the Stardust families fighting plans for a private members' club at the site of the 1981 blaze which killed 48 people.
Patrick Butterly & Sons Ltd has applied to Dublin City Council to redevelop the Artane House pub with a gaming area, private game rooms and a bar.
But a string of politicians have joined the families by lodging an objection.
TDs Terence Flanagan (FG) and Finian McGrath (Ind) and councillors Tom Brabazon (FF), Declan Flanagan (FG) and Sean Kenny (Lab) have spoken against it.
Mr McGrath cited a “lack of respect to the families of the Stardust fire victims” among his reasons for objecting.
Patrick Butterly & Sons did not comment.
