Give O'Sullivan the boot, say fans after Word Cup disaster

By Gavin Mairs

Irish ruby fans were today questioning whether Eddie O'Sullivan can survive as coach after yesterday's embarrassing and humiliating World Cup exit in Paris.

The Ireland team capped a shocking tournament with a 30-15 defeat against Argentina.

That saw O'Sullivan's team go out at the group stages when before the World Cup kicked off the coach and players were confidently predicting they could win it.

Previously Ireland had lost to France and were fortunate to beat so-called minnows Georgia and Namibia.

Many fans are now calling for O'Sullivan - who was given a new four-year contract prior to the tournament - to quit but after the match in Paris last night he was standing firm.

"I'm totally committed to this job," said O'Sullivan. "I still have a contract to run and every intention of seeing it through. I have the appetite for the job and I want to see it out."

Ireland captain Brian O'Driscoll has attempted to take the heat off O'Sullivan.

He said: "There's only so much coaching that can be done. The responsibility is on the 15 guys that take the field. We didn't front up enough during the four games."
