Health staff plan strike in pay row

By Victoria O'Hara

Health workers across Northern Ireland are set to stage a second four-hour strike over an ongoing pay row.

The action, described as "regrettable" by Health Minister Jim Wells, will take place on Monday from 8am.

Unite, which represents 4,000 health workers, said demonstrations have been organised at Craigavon Area Hospital and Bangor Hospital.

The union's lead officer for health, Kevin McAdam, said there was frustration among workers over the Health Minister's failure to implement the Independent Pay Body's recommendation for a 1% pay rise.

"This stoppage reflects our members' anger over what is happening to our NHS. "This cannot go on. Enough is enough," he said.
