Quinn companies donate vital PPE supplies to front line health staff

Just hours after announcing around 600 employees had been furloughed or laid off temporarily as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, Co Fermanagh-based Quinn Industrial Holdings has donated stocks of vital personal protective equipment (PPE) to front line health care workers.

Already over one thousand units of PPE, including masks, Tyvek suits and safety glasses have been provided to the South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen, Cavan General Hospital and local community care providers.

QIH (Quinn Building Products and Quinn Packaging) said the company has also been able to source a consignment of surgical masks from its suppliers which it will donate on arrival next week.

QIH chief executive Liam McCaffrey said: "We hope that in some small way this gesture will both show our appreciation and help save lives. It's the least they deserve."

On Monday, around 600 staff were informed of the cutbacks, as Quinns became the latest firm forced to take emergency measures due to the virus outbreak.

Meanwhile, Quinn Packaging has manufactured and donated more than 1.6 tonnes of plastic PET sheeting to Magherafelt firm Bloc Blinds for the manufacture of disposable face shields.
