School leaders' trip is cancelled

The Education Authority (EA) has cancelled plans for school leaders from here to travel to France and Spain for training amid the coronavirus outbreak.

More than 70 people were due to travel this weekend to take part in the week-long trips to Montpellier and Madrid. The school leaders were due to travel as part of a course on effective leadership funded by the European Union's Erasmus+ programme.

A EA spokesperson said it had taken a "considered approach and has been guided by the fast-changing nature of the Covid-19 coronavirus and the interventions being implemented in France and Spain".

Meanwhile, organisers of The Big Bang UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair, which was due to welcome NI schools and was to be held in Birmingham tomorrow, confirmed that coronavirus was to blame for the cancellation.
