Two senior doctors at Belfast City Hospital are self-isolating at home over coronavirus fears, it has been reported.
The Irish News reported the consultants volunteered after coming into contact with a laboratory worker who tested positive at the Royal Victoria Hospital.
It's further reported the non-medical worker had been on a ski trip in northern Italy and was advised to return to work as he did not have any symptoms at the time. Belfast Health Trust have said they would not comment on NHS staff who are self-isolating over privacy concerns.
The news comes as Taoiseach Leo Varadkar announced radical measures to contain the outbreak as the first coronavirus death in the Irish Republic was announced on Wednesday.
All schools, colleges and childcare facilities in the Republic are now closed until March 29.
