New campaign on medicine use
A new public information campaign has been launched by the Department of Health to stress the importance of using prescription medicine exactly as ordered by a doctor.
The ‘Follow the Advice, Use it Right’ campaign will involve television advertisements, outdoor visuals for buses and bus shelters, posters and leaflets for display in GP practices and community pharmacies.
Its aim is to highlight the importance of taking prescription medicines as directed by the doctor or pharmacist, including taking the right dose at the right time and ordering only the |medicines that are needed and used.
A department spokesman said: “This is especially important for people who have a long-term condition — like asthma, diabetes or high blood pressure.
“Even if people are not experiencing symptoms but have been prescribed long-term medications, they should follow the professional advice they’ve been given and continue to consult with their doctor if they have any concerns.”
