Horror as man is killed by train in Belfast
An investigation has been launched into the death of a man who died after becoming trapped under a train.
Police, specialist fire crews and ambulances were called to the incident at the Belfast City Hospital rail halt at about 3.30pm yesterday.
The man’s body was removed at about 6pm. Last night police said they are not treating the death as suspicious.
The train involved was the Enterprise service from Dublin. The 81 passengers on board were accommodated at a church hall before being bussed to their destination. The accident had a knock on effect on other train services after the railway line between Belfast Central and Great Victoria Street was closed.
Motorists were also affected when police sealed off the Donegall Road from Sandy Row to Broadway.
