Hostel boosted by £260k grant for education project

By Claire McNeilly

Homeless men who suffer from alcohol, drug and depression problems will benefit from a Big Lottery-funded initiative for the first time.

North West Housing Association (NWHA) has been awarded more than £250,000 to run a project for residents of a hostel in west Belfast.

The Community Learning for Independent Living Project, as it is known, aims to improve the education and job prospects of participants.

The NWHA — which received a grant of £264,525 — is among 14 beneficiaries of the Big Lottery Fund across Northern Ireland.

More than £5 million in total has been spent on the Reaching Communities programme, which supports projects that improve people’s lives, create stronger communities and improve local environments.
