In my day with Pamela Ballantine

We quiz Pamela Ballantine on the time of her life

Q What do you think has been your best decade?

A It is tough to decide as most of them have had good bits and bad bits but probably the end of the 70s when I started working in Downtown Radio.

Q What was life like back then?

A I was very shy growing up and when I went to a school in England for a year in the mid-1970s I found a completely new life which gave me the confidence to embrace more things.

Q What were you listening to?

A I had very eclectic musical tastes and with working in Downtown Radio we got to go to loads of gigs and get all the new releases for free. I listened to everything but I am a huge Bon Jovi fan.

Q And the style, what was that like?

AWhat can I say, I loved my Ra Ra skirts, I had a fab pair of black velvet knickerbockers with gold pinstripe and matching gold lurex jacket. However, usually it was really skinny jeans and clingy jumpers or t-shirts.

Q What has changed?

A You don't have to go through the ring of steel to get into town.

Q What was better?

A Professionally it is not so easy for people to move into different careers. I was a qualified private secretary who was lucky to be in the right place at the right time.
