'Ireland's dumbest criminal' flags down police for lift
Ireland's dumbest criminal was caught escaping a crime scene — when he accidentally flagged down a Garda car.
Jason Ellis (29) was so out of it that he tried to get a lift from officers despite having his pockets full of stolen goods.
He was caught with the stolen property after officers saw a satellite navigation system hanging out of his pocket and decided to search him.
He said he is addicted to both heroin and valium and can remember nothing about the night.
A judge ordered a probation report, saying the probation services may be able to help the defendant.
Ellis, with an address at Milltown estate in Ashbourne, Co Meath, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to threatening and abusive behaviour as well as possession of stolen property.
The incident took place on Church Road, Mulhuddart, on October 29 last year.
Judge Hugh O'Donnell ordered a probation report and adjourned sentencing to March.
