An Irish couple, believed to be from Dublin, have been remanded in custody by a Spanish magistrate after a man was beaten to death in front of his girlfriend.
Keith Burke (19) and Sara Stuart (27) are being held on suspicion of homicide after Abraham Baez Rodriguez died on the holiday island of Tenerife.
The 25-year-old ferry worker was found by police lying in a pool of blood with severe head injuries outside a hotel in the resort of Playa de las Americas last Friday morning.
Mr Burke and Ms Stuart were arrested shortly afterwards. They appeared before an investigating magistrate at the Court of Instruction number 5 on Saturday.
A spokesman for the court yesterday said: “Keith Burke is being formally investigated for homicide. He has been remanded in custody without bail.
“Sara Stuart is being formally investigated for homicide and for wounding, and has been remanded in custody without bail.”
Ms Stuart had attended Hartstown Community School in Clonsilla, north-west Dublin. Mr Burke had been working in Tesco before the couple moved to Tenerife at the start of April.
