Irish farmer denies raping young son

A man in the Republic of Ireland has pleaded not guilty to raping his young son.

The 52-year-old farmer west of Ireland man is accused of the offences over three years between 2001 and 2004.

He also denied 48 counts of sexual assault and neglect of the child.

He cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Yesterday at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin he pleaded not guilty to 47 charges of sexually assaulting the child and one charge of the wilful neglect.

The offences are alleged to have happened on dates between April 11, 2001, and June 23, 2004.

The trial is due to start on Thursday.
