Larne star of The Voice USA Keith Semple reveals baby joy

By Linda Stewart

Northern Irish singer Keith Semple is poised to reveal some exciting news to millions of fans following his journey on The Voice USA.

The Larne-born star says his wife Lanette is expecting a second child and is due to give birth in February next year.

The show was recorded months ago and his next appearance in the knockout round will show him sharing his news. The baby will be a little sister to his two-year-old daughter Rowan.

"She's running about telling everybody she is going to have a little sister," he told the Belfast Telegraph.

Last week, Keith won the praise of 'Happy' singer Pharrell Williams and Gwen Stefani - who released a heartbreaking new ballad at the weekend after her split from husband Gavin Rossdale.

Keith blew them away with a blistering performance of Baba O'Reilly by The Who, defeating his Battle Round opponent Manny Cabo.

"With that song I feel like I redeemed myself in a big way. I nailed it - I hit everything I wanted to hit," he says.

Keith says he felt like he hadn't reached his full potential in the blind auditions, when he performed I'll Be There For You by Bon Jovi.

"I didn't sing as well as I can sing because I was a little bit nervous," he said.

The video of the duet was leaked ahead of the NBC show and had amassed a million and a half viewers before the episode even aired. And the performance has now reached number 5 in the iTunes rock charts. Keith is best known to UK audiences for boyband One True Voice, but has been playing in his adopted home of Chicago for years with 7th Heaven - "the biggest band in the Midwest" - and now with his own band Semple.

"I'm still striving to get my music out to as many people as possible. The Voice is the biggest music show on earth - you have 12 million people watching every single time it's on," he says.

Next, Keith will perform a rock song in the knockout rounds, but is cagey about his choice of song.

"The next artist I cover is known for being one of the best rock singers on earth. I knew that I absolutely had to nail the song. I really feel I did it justice - I knew I had more in me."
