Line closed after man dies at rail station

By Claire Williamson

A man has died at Balmoral Halt train station.

The railway line in south Belfast was closed last night as the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue, ambulance service and police were all called to the incident.

A spokesman for the PSNI said: “At this stage a crime is not suspected.”

Two rapid response paramedics and an accident and emergency crew attended the scene close to King’s Hall.

A spokeswoman for Translink said: “We can confirm that an incident occurred at Balmoral Train Station at 8.50pm involving the 7.50pm Newry service departure.

“Emergency services were called to the scene and passengers were transported by bus to Great Victoria Street Station.”

A bus substitution service was put in place between Lisburn and Great Victoria Street Train and Bus Station and there were service delays and cancellations on the Bangor-Portadown railway line.
