The funeral of Jim 'JD' Donegan, the man murdered outside a west Belfast school last week, will take place on Thursday.

He was gunned down while waiting to collect his son, who is a pupil at St Mary's Christian Brothers School on the Glen Road.

The 43-year-old was shot repeatedly in his red Porsche sports car outside the school entrance, including in his head.

Teachers, as well as the acting principal, had to shield children from the sight of the car as they left the school premises. His 13-year-old son was stopped from seeing the carnage just in time.

Mr Donegan ran a courier firm and lived in Lisburn with his wife Laura. She has defended her late husband after reports linking Mr Donegan to the illegal drug trade began to emerge.

CCTV footage of the murder scene shows an assassin wearing a hi-vis jacket fleeing the area. The word 'security' was printed on the back of the jacket.

Two men, aged 49 and 51, were arrested but released unconditionally.

Requiem Mass will take place at St John the Evangelist Church on the Falls Road at 10am.

Mr Donegan will be remembered at another service at Roselawn crematorium afterwards.

Anyone with information on Mr Donegan's murder can contact police anonymously on the non-emergency 101 number.
