An Omagh man was jailed for two months yesterday after he was convicted of assaulting a hospital doctor.

Conor Rodgers (48), from Drumannon Rise, is on the violent patients list and has already been banned from hospitals in Omagh and Enniskillen except for genuine medical emergencies.

He assaulted the male doctor in Altnagelvin's accident and emergency department on January 23. He was also convicted of disorderly behaviour in the hospital on the same date.

At Londonderry Magistrates Court, District Judge Barney McElholm said the defendant had acted in an aggressive and intimidatory way.

"I can imagine he may have been in pain, but to take it out on doctors and nurses?" he said.

Mr McElholm added that Rodgers was "well-known in other hospitals".
