Young Manchester United football star Darron Gibson has returned from America to his native Londonderry following the death of his grandmother.
The 22-year-old midfielder has been given permission from boss Alex Ferguson to leave the club’s Philadelphia base.
United are currently touring North America and Gibson was playing when the team defeated Celtic in Toronto on Friday past 3-1.
Gibson, who comes from the Hazelbank area of the city, was expected to arrive home yesterday\[Brendan McDaid\]WED JULY 21.
Gibson rose to prominence playing for Institute FC in his native city and later went on to play for Northern Ireland Under-16s.
Now a Republic of Ireland international, he broke through to the Red Devils’ first team in the 2008/09 season.
