Mary Peters in driving seat at sports exhibition

Northern Ireland sporting greats Dame Mary Peters and Eddie Irvine believe that the feats of the past can inspire the stars of the future.

Speaking at yesterday’s launch of the Ulster Sports Museum exhibition at the Eddie Irvine Sports Centre in Bangor, Dame Mary said: “I’m absolutely thrilled with the exhibition.

“It would be great to bottle up the enthusiasm that’s here today and sell it to raise money for the museum,” said the Olympic gold medallist in the pentathlon at the 1972 Games in Munich.

“Obviously it would be nice eventually to have a permanent site, but the exhibition will be here for a number of weeks so that people of the area can come and read about their sporting heroes and tell us about anyone we have missed out.”
