Missing paedophile seen boarding ferry to Northern Ireland

Police have appealed for information about a missing paedophile last seen boarding a ferry to Northern Ireland.

Strathclyde Police have renewed their appeal for missing person Fraser McLaughlin, who was last seen on the May 5.

McLaughlin is missing from the Hamilton area of South Lanarkshire. He has a conviction which relates to the taking, permitting to be taken, making, distributing, showing and possessing indecent photographs of children.

He is described as white, 6ft, of heavy build and with red hair that is greying.

He also has a small white moustache and wears glasses. He was last seen wearing a cloth cap, a red and blue waterproof jacket, with white piping on the sleeves, possibly ‘Lonsdale’ brand, with a white sweater under this jacket.

The officer leading the investigation, Detective Inspector David Tassie said: “Strathclyde Police has been working closely with our partners in other police forces and social work departments in Scotland, England and Ireland to trace Mr McLaughlin, who was last seen boarding a ferry for Northern Ireland on May 5, 2010.

“There have been sightings in the Blackpool area where Mr McLaughlin has strong ties.

“Mr McLaughlin is a diabetic who suffers from a heart complaint and has not had access to any prescribed medication since his disappearance.

“I would appeal to anyone with information about the whereabouts of Mr McLaughlin to contact my officers at Blantyre Police Office on 01698 202540 or any local police station.

“Alternatively information can be passed confidentially to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.''
