Northern Ireland proud sunflower growers reach new heights
Our sunflower-growing competition has proved a soaring success. It attracted hundreds of entries with the tallest plant in Northern Ireland resembling Jack's fabled beanstalk, reaching 12ft 6in.
The reach of the competition was also impressive, bringing in photographs from England and the Republic of Ireland.
But our initiative's real value was in encouraging people of all ages to get out into the garden and grow something.
Sunflowers may not be the most difficult plants to cultivate but they create an impressive sight and also give their growers a sense of achievement. Congratulations to all who took part and especially to the winners.
Perhaps they will make Northern Ireland blooming lovely in the future.
