11,000 homes and firms hit in Northern Ireland power cut

Almost 11,000 homes and businesses were hit in a power cut in Londonderry as engineers continue to restore a small number of properties to the supply.

NIE Networks reported the fault to 10,979 customers just before 12.30pm on Monday.

The fault is due to a equipment failure.

Repair engineers are at the scene and working to restore power as soon as possible.

By 3pm around 500 customers remained without power.

It is estimated power will be fully restored by 3.30pm.
