£1.1m plan to revamp Tiger’s Bay with new homes

A deprived area of north Belfast is to get a £1.1m housing boost, the Social Development Minister has announced.

The Tiger’s Bay redevelopment will see seven properties on Limestone Road and three properties on Hallidays Road demolished and replaced with new-builds.

“This is an important day for the people of the Tiger’s Bay area. Demolition work has now begun to help rejuvenate the area by re-developing buildings that are in a dilapidated condition and are a blight on the local community,” said minister Nelson McCausland.

“However, this is just the start of our plans for this community. Replacing blight and dereliction with good quality housing is an important first step in supporting and sustaining communities who may have previously felt left behind or marginalised.

“During next year, we will bring forward a further 16 new homes in Tiger's Bay, reinforcing my support for this community.”

Apex Housing Association has been formally appointed to take forward the development.
