15 arrests after drive to target burglars

A police operation targeting creeper burglars across Northern Ireland has resulted in 15 people being arrested — and up to 100 charges are expected to follow.

Officers also recovered seven cars, along with a quantity of electrical items, including laptops and TVs, jewellery and cash.

The operation, involving specialist resources, ran for a six-week period from mid-October until early December.

The 15 arrests led to some 80 charges with this figure expected to rise to above 100 as follow-up investigations are completed.

The arrests covered a range of offences including robbery, grievous bodily harm, false imprisonment, burglary, aggravated taking and driving away, dangerous driving and driving whilst disqualified. Seven of those arrested are in custody with the rest on bail.

“We are delighted to have made 15 arrests and recovered a large amount of property following creeper burglaries at homes across Northern Ireland,” said the PSNI’s domestic burglary leading officer Chief Supt Alan Todd.
