£1.6m push to recruit more care home staff
A £1.6m boost for care homes to help them recruit more staff has been announced by Health Minister Simon Hamilton.
The package from the Health and Social Care Board will provide funds for care homes and nursing homes as well as the domiciliary care sector.
In recent months the board has been lobbied by health professionals over difficulties in recruiting staff.
"The care sector is a crucial partner in the delivery of vital services to vulnerable people in Northern Ireland," said Mr Hamilton. "Having recently met with the sector, I am acutely aware of the different challenges they face including recruitment."
Mr Hamilton said he believed the package would "bring some stability and confidence to the sector" and reassure residents and their families.
"A key part of this will be the setting of a new regional tariff for 2016/17."
