£1k donation to glass firm Belfast Crystal gutted by fire

By Rachel Martin

A west Belfast crystal firm devastated in a fire has been gifted a generous £1,000 anonymous donation.

The money was given online through website GoFundMe.

To date, £7,575 has been raised through the site for businessman Tony Abbate.

Mr Abbate lost everything on July 1 when a fire which started outside his premises swept through the warehouse, destroying almost all his equipment and a substantial amount of stock.

Uninsured, he says he is unable to get back into business without support.

Mr Abbate believes the company could be affected for up to five years while he struggles to replace the equipment and build back lost orders.

The firm, which is based in west Belfast's Kennedy Way, has manufactured prizes for many of the region's best known awards ceremonies, including the Belfast Telegraph Sports Awards andSunday Life Spirit of Northern Ireland Awards.
