£2.5m boost for Lough Neagh

A heritage is to be created round Lough Neagh as part of a major £2.58m Heritage Lottery Fund grant.

The five-year Landscape Partnership scheme will fund a series of projects, including archaeological digs and wetland and peatland conservation.

The Heritage Lottery Fund said Lough Neagh is the UK's largest lake and is a distinct landscape made up of wetland habitat, home to a wide variety of plant and animal life.

The announcement comes weeks after the award of a £1.6m grant for a new landscape partnership scheme in the Glens of Antrim.
