One-hundred-and-eight prisoners - including 31 serving life sentences - in Northern Ireland jails have been granted Christmas home leave.
The prisoners will be released for varying periods between December 23 and January 4 and have had restrictions placed on their activities.
Fifty-one of those criminals released are serving time at Magilligan and another 31 are serving time at Maghaberry.
Eight young offenders and five women prisoners are being released from Hydebank Wood Young Offenders Centre and Prison.
A Department of Justice spokesperson said: "All prisoners granted Christmas home leave have been the subject of a satisfactory risk assessment and have successfully completed a home leave programme or undergone periods of unaccompanied testing in the community."
