£5.5m facelift for centre of Ards
Newtownards is to benefit from a multi-million pound investment to revamp its centre.
Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland announced details of the public realm scheme as he visited the town yesterday.
The Executive, through the Department for Social Development, will fund £3m of the £5.5m scheme with the rest from Ards Borough Council.
The funding will upgrade key streets and the Conway Square area to boost tourism.
Mr McCausland said: "This major investment will help to reinvigorate the heart of Newtownards, improve trading conditions and encourage private sector investment. Works will include upgrading of footpaths and road surfaces; improved lighting; under-grounding of overhead services and additional street furniture and foliage throughout the area."
