£5m FG Wilson assembly line starts
A new £5 million assembly line has started rolling at one of Co Antrim's leading engineering firms.
First Minister Peter Robinson was at FG Wilson's plant in Larne to see the high tech 47,000 sq ft production operation in action.
He was joined by Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster at the firm which has been designing and manufacturing diesel and gas generator sets for four decades.
"FG Wilson is a company with a global reputation for quality products, efficient work processes and strong international sales," said Mr Robinson.
"Its journey through the difficult business environment of the last few years is a testament to the strength and resilience of our manufacturing sector.
"This investment is good news for our manufacturing sector and for the local economy.
"With more than 3,000 people located in three sites across Northern Ireland, FG Wilson is a major employer that has established itself as a global leader in engineering. This substantial investment in cutting-edge production equipment will help it to safeguard the business and underpin future growth."
Gerard Vittecoq, group president of Caterpillar Group, FG Wilson's parent company, showed Mr Robinson and Mrs Foster around the plant.
Mrs Foster said: "FG Wilson's investment in this new line will help it to achieve efficiencies that will enhance its competitiveness in the global marketplace.
"It is a sign of the company's continuing commitment to its Larne plant, which has brought so many benefits to the Larne area and the Northern Ireland economy over the last 40 years."
