£70k scheme for LED city centre lights

By Cate McCurry

Belfast's arterial routes are in line for a £70,000 revamp, with new street lights to be installed throughout the city centre.

The new and cheaper LED street lights will replace the current lights.

These include Victoria Street, Donegal Street, Donegall Square, Wellington Place, Chichester Place, Howard Street and May Street.

Infrastructure Minister Chris Hazzard made the announcement yesterday, saying the system will improve the quality of "street lighting" and reduce costs.

"There are many environmental benefits of using LED lighting," he added.
