999 caller on new charges of causing annoyance

By Nevin Farrell

A man who once dialled 999 on Christmas Day claiming he was American popstar Nicki Minaj and said there was a poltergeist in his house has been charged with five more counts of causing annoyance.

Stephen Brown (26), of Cairn Walk, Crumlin, appeared at Antrim Magistrates Court yesterday and was remanded in custody.

Defence barrister Neil Moore said his client would be entering guilty pleas on all counts.

Brown was on a deferred sentence for similar matters at the time of the offences.

The charges include persistently making use of a public electronic communications network for the purpose of causing annoyance on June 25 and June 26 this year, two counts of sending a message of menacing character on August 14 and August 16, and sending a message that he knew to be false for the purpose of causing annoyance on August 19.

Mr Moore said the defendant has "entrenched psychiatric issues" and also has alcohol difficulties.
