A man collapsed from a drug overdose after trying to attack police arresting him in connection with alleged threats to kill, the High Court heard yesterday.
Dean McAfee (41) was rushed to hospital and put on a life support machine, a judge was told.
McAfee, of Ramsey Park, Macosquin, Coleraine, faces charges of criminal damage, aggravated assault, threats to kill, assault on police and being armed with an offensive weapon with intent.
The alleged offences relate to two separate incidents in the town last month. He was refused bail after the Lord Chief Justice Sir Declan Morgan expressed astonishment at the lack of objection to his original release.
He added: “There is such a high and serious risk of further offending that I cannot possibly admit him to bail.”
