Accused Lance Agnew faces court over Specsavers theft

By Nevin Farrell

A Larne man has appeared in court after being accused of theft and fraud by false representation while he was an employee at Specsavers in the Co Antrim town.

Lance Agnew (25), of Loran Glen, faces 10 counts of theft, one of which alleges that between October 2016 and February 23 this year he stole £478.50 from Specsavers.

Agnew also faces nine other theft (by employee) charges which allege that on different dates in February this year he stole sums ranging from £10 to £25 with the total amount of those charges being £177.50.

The defendant, who appeared at Ballymena Magistrates' Court yesterday, also faces five charges of fraud by false representation.

Those charges allege that on dates from October last year to February this year he entered refund transactions "that were not associated with customer records and removed the resulting monies from the till".

Agnew told the court he was electing to have his case heard at a higher court and the matter was adjourned until the end of September to fix a date for a preliminary enquiry - the legal step to send a case to the Crown Court.
