Accused on charges of abusing two schoolgirls

A man has gone on on trial accused of a catalogue of sex offences against two young schoolgirls.

Jonathan Axon (27) is charged with 15 offences against the girls, who are now aged 13 and 15.

A jury at Belfast Crown Court heard the charges included offences of gross indecency, sexual engagement with children under 13, and the indecent and sexual assault of his alleged victims.

Prosecutor Gareth Purvis said 12 of the offences were committed against one of the girls between December 31, 2006 and January 1, 2010.

The offences against the second girl were allegedly committed on August 13, 2011.

Axon, of Abbotscoole House, Rosslea Way, Newtownabbey, denies all the charges.

Mr Purvis said the alleged offences came to light when one of the girls was having a sleepover at her sister's house.

The victim told her mother and sister about the alleged incidents and the police were later called.

Mr Purvis said a second victim then came forward to police to say she had also been sexually assaulted by Axon.

The trial continues.
