Accused remanded on gun and drugs charges

A teenager has appeared in court accused of having a handgun and £15,000 worth of amphetamines.

Daniel Cochrane (19) was charged after the search of a flat on the Upper Lisburn Road, Belfast, earlier this month.

Police told the city's magistrates court that he was wanted by police and was only arrested in the city centre on Monday.

Cochrane, of Milfort Avenue, Dunmurry, faces charges of possessing a firearm and possession of class B drugs with intent to supply.

These include cannabis and a quantity of amphetamines with an estimated street value of £15,000.

A constable who opposed bail claimed the reason given for having the weapon was “hardly credible”.

Cochrane was remanded in custody to appear again via video-link next month.
